“Vance is a sixth generation Coloradan who grew up spending much time camping, hiking, and climbing all over the southwest. The time he spent in the wilderness would instill in him a deep awe and appreciation of nature. He counts the natural world as his main source of inspiration as an artist.
Vance worked as a furniture and cabinet maker while developing his unique method of building with tree branches. His signature technique is a style of connecting the branches end to end, which allows the sculpture to retain the natural shape of the trees. The design of the sculpture is always a collaboration between the artist and nature.”
